What I have been wearing over the past 2 weeks or so. The apc boots have finally worn themselves in quite beautifully, although for the first couple of months after purchasing them I couldn't quite adapt....it took a little while before they actually came to feel like a part of me, my regular uniform, and now I am loathe to take them off. They are incredibly comfortable and supple, and regardless my initial misgivings relating to the colour, they are remarkably versatile. In fact, the colour might be just what I love about them most, surprisingly. Still coveting the navy/grey/black/white combination, too, which makes switching each separate piece around something of a pleasure instead of a challenge. I think that this was what I had initially aimed for, the ease of combining a collection of separates which all work so well together. And this tends to minimise the need for almost constant purchasing in an effort to 'make things work'. Basically, if an item does not already feel somewhat integral to my current 'uniform', it isn't going to work for me. This isn't necessarily a strict rule - for there's always room for the occasional stand alone luxury - but it is a fairly decent guide to work with if you are determined to create a sort of unity, or prefer not to (or simply cannot) spend incessantly.
The Hooch coat is a very dear old favourite of mine, which I have been meaning to mention for a little while now. First purchased in my pre-uni days (late 1990's) it has stood the test of time remarkably well. I have just recently begun to wear it again, and it is quite amazing how many memories and associations have resurfaced with it! It's a nice feeling, to sort of 'reconnect' with old clothes. I tend to tuck the pompoms back into the hood nowadays though, for cutting them off would horrify me. These days, for me, pompoms are for slippers (my cat likes to cultivate them) and the occasional hat....but again, maybe not so strict a rule :-)

Well thought out collection of wardrobe staples. I love that you are able to return to a pre 1990's buy too, the sign of a good purchase.
Beautiful post- it perfectly describes where I want to find myself one day. Also so nice about the coat! Who knows? Maybe one day the pom-poms will grow on you again. :)
Aren't those boots fabulous? I'm happy I bought them and wished I had known how comfy they were earlier. The color is tremendously versatile, I thought they wouldn't go with black jeans (the whole black pants/brown shoes no no) but they seem to be working out fine - at least I think they are :-)
Love the boots! So glad to see you posting sometimes here still.
So true about the associations tied to certain clothes. I love the history behind some of my clothes.
Pinkbow, I think that I need to create more outfit images in this style, it has helped me to actually 'see' how the various pieces work together once removed from the wardrobe. It also eliminates the occasional awkwardness of posing for the camera.
Camisablanca, thanks! I dare say the pompoms will make an appearance for special occasions :)
Amanda, In terms of colour, I think that it also depends upon the entire outfit, not just the pants/tights. It took a while for this to click, but I've developed a sort of intuitive sense for what works with them over the past 6 months. I'm not usually a fan of brown & black (although I adore navy and black) so it took some rethinking - but it's entirely worth the effort! I'm glad to hear someone else loves them too.
Quinn, I seem to be in the mood for blogging recently, so shall happily go with it! The coat is indeed a treasure, and more so due to it's associated memories. I sometimes regret having let go of many of my old clothes, but perhaps the fact that I was able to is more telling.
These all look so deliciously warm. We've been getting buckets of rains for maybe 2 weeks or more now, and it's making me miss the cold weather. It's weird, it's sort of cool, but horribly humid, so I feel out of place wearing shorts and a tee.
I love the grey and navy far too much, so I love everything :)
"Basically, if an item does not already feel somewhat integral to my current 'uniform', it isn't going to work for me."
So true. I tried to wear a long rust coloured gored skirt tonight, for the third time and... I doesn't work for me. At all. I feel déguisée, dressed up, awkward in it... I gave it a chance but really, no. Actually I hesitated before buying it, and shouldn't have bought it...
Your blog is absoluely wonderful and very inspiring, too. I love the clear and bright images...
Thank you for having visited mine.

Lovely post with great items. Nice to see the Jaeger shirt, I am a big fan of their cashmere sweaters and other basics.
That YMC sweater seems dreamy! I have never heard of the brand before so I have some googling to do :)
Hi, lovely post! I just wondered what size you got your YMC jumper in? I am after the navy one but not too sure about sizing!
Thanks x
Thankyou:)
Kate, this is a size small. I saw the jumper on an asos model and it fit really snug, so I called ymc to check the sizes. I wanted to wear it a little loose, so was advised to take the size small (the asos model wore the 8/XS). I am wearing the jumper in the previous post, so you can check out how it looks there. I am 5'4 and a UK8.
